Marvel Casting: Ryan Reynolds, Benedict Cumberbatch and Krysten Ritter All Confirmed for Key Roles

You know what? We're going to say it. Marvel makes really excellent decisions.

Today, the company confirmed a couple of previous casting rumors: Benedict Cumberbatch is set to play Dr. Strange as previously reported, and Krysten Ritter is confirmed to play Jessica Jones.

Additionally, sources say that Ryan Reynolds is practically a lock to play Deadpool, but confirmation is still yet to come.

Cumberbatch was rumored before to be in talks for Doctor Strange, a sorceror of sorts in the Marvel universe who will have his own solo movie and likely factor into future Avengers movies. Marvel had reportedly been courting Joaquin Phoenix for the role, but those talks fell through.

Ritter, who is famous for her roles on "Don't Trust the B**** in Apartment 23" and "Breaking Bad," was one of a few actresses being considered for the role of Jessica Jones. Her role will start on television, starring in one of Netflix's original Marvel series (the others featuring Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Daredevil).

As for Reynolds, he has actually played a version of Deadpool before in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" where he played a character named Wade Wilson, a.k.a. Deadpool's alter ego.

A short demo leaked out a while back, featuring (mostly CGI) footage of a Reynolds-voiced Deadpool cracking wise and cracking skulls.

The Deadpool movie will not exist in the same universe as Dr. Strange and Marvel's Netflix shows, however, as the character remains the property of 20th Century Fox. Rather, Deadpool will act as a sort of spin-off to the X-Men, and should interact with them in the future, perhaps with a Wolverine/Deadpool cross-over film.
