Mark Hamill Has Second Thoughts About 'Last Jedi' Criticism
by EG
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi had a hard enough time winning over diehard fans all by itself. It didn't help that one of its stars, Mark Hamill, publicly expressed his opinion that his character had been mishandled by the film's writers. After suggesting that the 'Last Jedi' version of Luke Skywalker is not the character he'd been playing all these years, Hamill tried to backtrack this week.
Mark Hamill on Tuesday said he regretted voicing his criticism of how Luke Skywalker was written for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
The actor wrote that he should have kept his thoughts on the matter out of the public and that writer-director Rian Johnson made a great film.
I regret voicing my doubts & insecurities in public.Creative differences are a common element of any project but usually remain private. All I wanted was to make good movie. I got more than that- @rianjohnson made an all-time GREAT one! #HumbledHamill https://t.co/8ujJfBuEdV

In previous interviews, Hamill said he did not like the direction Johnson went with his classic Jedi character.
Among the criticisms of those who didn't like the film were notes on Skywalker's unexpected arc. Previous interviews Hamill had done in which he also said he did not care for the character's direction were used by angry fans as proof it was not in line with what Star Wars, in their opinion, should be.
"I pretty much fundamentally disagree with every choice you’ve made for this character," Hamill told Johnson during shooting of the film, the actor recounted in a May interview in Vanity Fair.
