Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher to Return to 'Star Wars'?
by Zack Wells“Star Wars” fans, you can rest easy. Your favorite heroes are “pretty much” back for the upcoming “Star Wars Episode VII”.
In an interview with Bloomberg Business Week, the father of the “Star Wars” franchise George Lucas let a very juicy tidbit slip. “We had already signed Mark (Hamill) and Carrie (Fisher) and Harrison (Ford) – or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation.”
After he realized what he had said, he quickly backpedaled, “Maybe I’m not supposed to say that.” Whoops, indeed, Mr. Lucas.
Fan boys worldwide are collectively cheering and groaning at the return of their favorite sci-fi heroes. But you have to ask yourself, are actors up for a return?
“I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.” Lucas backpedaled some more. “I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.”
But what about poor Billy Dee Williams, everyone’s favorite Lando Calrissian? He has said no one’s asked him to come back yet, but he requests that fans send in letters and emails and tweets to the powers that be to make their demand known: We Want Lando.
Some controversy around the character of Lando Calrissian and Han Solo has crept up, as Disney announced their intention to do spin-off movies likely based on the two. When asked about it, Billy Dee Williams clearly stated, “Nobody can play Lando but me.”
Let’s hope he gets his wish.
“Star Wars: Episode VII”, directed by J.J. Abrams (director of “Star Trek Into Darkness) and written by Michael Arndt (the man behind Toy Story 3), is currently set to be released sometime in 2015.
