Mariska Hargitay Adopts a Baby Girl!

Mariska Hargitay, star of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," is a new mom!

PEOPLE magazine is reporting that the 47-year-old actress and her husband, actor Peter Hermann, are settling in with 1-week-old Amaya Josephine.

The family considered both domestic and international adoption but in the end they were blessed with this little American bundle of joy.

A baby girl rounds out the family nicely. Big brother August, 4-years-old, is apparently ecstatic about the new addition.

Hargitay told PEOPLE, "He is over the moon. He calls her his baby because he says the whole thing was his idea. He always talks about how he's going to protect her. He's going to be a great big brother."

Hargitay herself can't contain her excitement saying, "I'm deliriously happy. From the minute she was born, she was just surprisingly alert and so full of love."
