'Inception' Co-Stars Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt Confirmed for 'Dark Knight Rises,' Roles Finally Revealed!

We can all finally stop speculating about Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard as far as their roles in "The Dark Knight Rises" is concerned: Warner Bros finally confirmed the two for the final Batman movie, and revealed their roles. The movie-watching community at large has been speculating on which roles the two would be playing for weeks now.

And boy, were we all wrong.

Marion Cotillard will be playing Miranda Tate, a member of the Wayne Enterprises executive board. Tate is a character who believes in Bruce's father's vision of a better Gotham through the good deeds of the company. Cotillard was rumored to play Talia Al Ghul, so this is a far cry from what we were expecting.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt had been rumored as everyone from the Riddler to Black Mask to Alberto Falcone, all of them villains. According to WB, Gordon-Levitt will actually be playing John Blake, a Gotham city beat cop who begins working under Commissioner Gordon for a special task force. So, it looks like he'll be a good guy, unless something goes wrong with Mr. Blake.

Interestingly, neither of these characters seem to come from the comics. If they are based on characters from the comics, the names have been changed.

Cotillard and Gordon-Levitt both worked with director Christopher Nolan on "Inception," and Nolan said that he "immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake."

For now, then, it looks like the only villains in "The Dark Knight Rises" will be Bane and Catwoman (played by Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway). Of course, there could be some secret casting going on that we don't know about, or this Blake guy could end up being a villain. But for now, it looks like it will mostly be Batman vs. Gotham as opposed to Batman vs. a supervillain.
