Will Margot Robbie Play Joe Exotic in 'Tiger King' Miniseries?

The natural evolution of a true-crime fad would seem to go from podcast to Netflix docuseries to fictionalized miniseries in which A-list actors get to ham it up. That's the route Tiger King is going, and the producers of the fictionalized miniseries have some ideas for stunt casting to keep people interested. Read on for details.

Margot Robbie is apparently one of the names in the frame to play Joe Exotic in the upcoming “Tiger King” miniseries.

While Kate McKinnon has already signed to play Carole Baskin, Robert Moor, the host of the podcast “Joe Exotic: Tiger King” says while Sam Rockwell’s name has been mentioned for Joe in the casting process, he actually wants “Bombshell” star Robbie to play the polyamorous big cat wrangler.

Moor hosts “Joe Exotic” the second season of Wondery’s “Over My Dead Body” podcast. The deal for the miniseries was struck last November, way before the debut of hit Netflix doc “Tiger King.” The series is being produced by studio UCP and has been optioned by NBCUniversal with “SNL” star McKinnon to star and executive produce.

Speaking on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show “Radio Andy” on Monday, Moor said he has been involved in the casting discussions. He said. “We’ve been talking a lot of names … [“Jojo Rabbit” star] Sam Rockwell was one of the names that came up a lot to play Joe Exotic.”

Sounding completely serious, he continued, “My preferred casting — and this is off the wall — would be Margot Robbie. I think Margot Robbie should play Joe in a like a gender switch [thing] …”

When Cohen points out that Robbie is far too attractive to play Joe, Moor responded, “Just look at her eyes, that’s the thing, if you look at her eyes, she has these eyes that are just like Joe’s … I think she would do a great job with it.”

When asked for other casting ideas, Moor said, “I heard [“Talladega Nights” star] John C. Reilly should play Doc Antle, I like that one a lot.”
