Man Who Broke Into LL Cool J's Home Had Previous Manslaughter Charges

Man Who Broke Into LL Cool J's Home Had Previous Manslaughter Charges Yesterday we posted an article about LL Cool J detaining the burglar who had broken into his Los Angeles home. Today information on the suspect has surfaced that makes Cool J even more awesome, and the whole situation a lot scarier.

Initial reports were that the rapper and “NCIS: Los Angeles” actor had detained the burglar after the man broke into the star’s home in the middle of the night, while Cool J, along with his wife and four children, slept. The man was reported to have some minor bruising and was hospitalized for his injuries.

Minor bruising indeed.

According to new reports, Cool J broke the man’s nose, ribs, and jaw in the scuffle before he managed to restrain the man for police.

Before you feel too bad for the unfortunate would-be thief (if you were feeling so inclined), consider that the suspect, Jonathan Kirby, has previous convictions for auto theft, first degree burglary, and petty theft.

He was also convicted of voluntary manslaughter in Dallas, Texas, in 1988.

Yikes! While the details of that particular conviction aren’t noted and thus I’m risking a mild exaggeration, I’m going to just assume that LL Cool J basically took down Leatherface.

Because of these previous incidents, Kirby has been charged with first degree burglary as a third striker. That means Kirby’s looking at about 40 years in prison (give or take life) if he is convicted, and since Cool J basically destroyed the man and handed him smilingly to the cops, I’m thinking Kirby’s defense is going to pretty much spend their time in court eating pudding cups and shrugging.

Bail for Kirby has been set at $1.1 million.
