'Born This Way'? Not in Malaysia; Authorities Muffle Lady Gaga Lady Gaga is getting gagged in Malaysia as radio stations fear her lyrics could offend the nation’s social and religious observances.

According to the Associated Press, broadcasters in the Muslim-majority country are refusing to play lines in the song that encourage public acceptance of gays.

Certain lyrics of "Born This Way" have made indecipherable, including: "No matter gay, straight or bi, lesbian, transgendered life, I'm on the right track, baby.”

"The issue of being gay, lesbian or (bisexual) is still considered as a 'taboo' by general Malaysians," the AMP Radio Networks, Malaysia’s top private radio operator, said in a statement.

Broadcasters can be fined 50,000 ringgit ($16,000) for breaking the rules.

Malaysian gay rights activist Pang Khee Teik is calling on the media to be "a platform for marginalized voices and create understanding - not perpetuate ignorance and hate."

He also encourages Lady Gaga to ask stations not to air her songs at all.

"Lady Gaga was attempting to address this very thing in her song. How dare they play that song and cut out its shining heart," said Pang, the co-founder of Sexuality Independence, a Malaysian anti-discrimination arts movement. "We just want the same thing as everyone else: to love, be loved and have our songs played on the radio."

The AP reports that last year, Pang’s group posted a Youtube clip of a young gay Muslim who defended his sexuality.

After anonymous viewers made death threats against him, the video was removed. The man was accused of insulting Islam but no official action was take by government authorities.
