'Making a Murderer' Gets a Second Season

Netflix announced this week that it will bring back the hit true-crime series Making a Murderer for a second season, satisfying the wishes of all the fans that hoped they'd get another look at the trials and tribulations of convicted murderers Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey.

Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, the series' co-creators, said that the new episodes will focus on the legal process as it proceeds after the convictions of Avery and Dassey and that the huge response the series received helped them to decide to continue with the project.

"We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response to, and support of, the series. The viewers’ interest and attention has ensured that the story is not over, and we are fully committed to continuing to document events as they unfold," they said in a statement.

The first 10-episode season of the series told the story of Avery's and Dassey's arrest and conviction for the murder of Teresa Halbach, but it also raised the possibility that police corruption and legal incompetence played a part in the convictions. The series raised a noisy outcry from viewers who felt that the defendants had been treated unfairly.

Netflix has not yet announced a premiere date for season two of Making a Murderer.
