Madonna May Perform Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show

Madonna May Perform Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show Might the third time be Madonna's charm?

It's only speculation right now with nothing official announced by the NFL, but SBNation.com reports that "sources close to" Super Bowl XLVI claim Madonna will perform during the big game's halftime show at Lucas Oil Field in Indianapolis, IN Feb. 5.

SBNation.com claims that an NFL representative declined comment.

Things have always been touch-and-go between Madonna and Super Bowl organizers. The now-Rock & Roll Hall of Famer was supposedly invited to perform her cover of "American Pie" at the 1998 game in Miami, but her recording schedule wouldn't allow it, according to People.

Organizers took another stab when they courted Madonna for the Super Bowl XXXV show in 2000, but TV Guide reported that she backed out at the last minute for reasons that were never completely explained.

Wow, what a long way we've come. Had NFL brass courted a much younger Material Girl for a halftime show today, the result probably would've been something that would've made that little Janet Jackson SNAFU look like a "Teletubbies" rerun.
