Lupita Nyong'o Named People's Most Beautiful

It has been a big year for "12 Years a Slave" actress Lupita Nyong'o. Not only did she win an Oscar for best supporting actress, and sign a deal with cosmestic company Lancome to become their first black ambassador, now she has been honored by People magazine, who are naming Nyong'o their "Most Beautiful Person" for 2014.

Also making the Beautiful list are Amber Heard, Keri Russell, Pink, Jennifer Lawrence, Kerry Washington, and Mindy Kaling, among others.

Nyong'o joins a fairly short list of back cover models - Halle Berry was the first, in 2003, not followed by Beyonce until 2012.

Nyong'o told "Today" host Savannah Guthrie that the news truly moved her. "I'm flattered, but flattered sounds like such a flighty word, you know? I'm flattered with like, gravitas under it."

She revealed at a "Black Women in Hollywood" luncheon that she had not always been proud of her features. As a young girl she used to pray to God to wake up in the morning with lightened skin.

"I remember a time when I felt too unbeautiful," she said, "I put on the TV and only saw pale skin. I got teased and taunted about my night-shaded skin."

Check out the full feature in People on April 25th.
