'Lucifer' Gets a Full Season on Fox
by EG
Lucifer hasn't been an outstanding performer for Fox so far this season, but apparently the fantasy is doing well enough that the network is willing to give it the chance to finish out the season. This week, Fox ordered a full season of 22 episodes of the series, essentially guaranteeing that, if nothing else, it won't be cancelled before next spring.
Lucifer has been barely holding its own for Fox on Monday nights, where it's up against the second hour of The Voice. The singing competition show has been regularly winning the slot, and CBS's 2 Broke Girls and The Odd Couple have been edging past Lucifer, too.
The problem is, Fox doesn't have much in the way of successful dramas this season, and in comparison to underperfomers like The Exorcist and Rosewood, Lucifer doesn't look quite so bad. Its average ratings are lagging just behind those of Gotham and not all that far behind those of Lethal Weapon, Fox's most successful new drama of the season.
Lucifer, which is based on characters from Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics, debuted last January. It was renewed in the spring for a second season, which began in September. It stars Tom Ellis and Lauren German.
