Lorde Releases New Single 'Yellow Flicker Beat' for 'Hunger Games: Mockingjay' Soundtrack

As if a new Lorde song wasn't enough of a treat...this one is on the soundtrack for "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1."

The new single from the 17-year-old New Zealander is titled "Yellow Flicker Beat," and like most of Lorde's music, it's subdued but not lacking in gravity. It also starts, as so many of her songs do, very minimalistic before dropping the beat.

Lorde has been tapped by Lionsgate to curate the new "Hunger Games" sequel's soundtrack, choosing the music that will ultimately end up on the album along with her own contribution. The decision came after Lorde provided her haunting and very apt cover of "Everybody Wants To Rule the World" for last year's "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire."

"It’s so rewarding, but it blows my mind that this massive studio has just handed the reigns over to a 17-year-old,” Lorde said in an interview with Billboard. “I’ve literally been doing it by myself, contacting every artist, sorting everything out."

But the singer has thus far been mum about who exactly will end up on the album. "I don’t know if I want to tell you anything yet!" she said. "It’s very new. But there are some people on there that you’re going to be super surprised by. You’ll be like, what? I haven’t heard form them in ages… but in a great way."
