Looking for Something to Watch on Netflix? This Guy Made an Official Top 50 List For You
by Andy NeuenschwanderWe've all been there: You're settling in for a relaxing night of Netflix watching, but you just end up pulling your hair out trying to decide on what to watch. After all, Netflix features movies of all kinds; who's to know if you're about to watch something terrible?
Well, Redditor clayton_frisbee has a solution for you.
This clever Internet denizen did all the work for you, cross-referencing the IMDB Top 250 list with the list of available movies on Netflix. It was a tough job, but somebody had to do it.
The result: 49 certified awesome movies for you to watch, streaming, anytime.
You see, the IMDB Top 250 list features the top 250 movies as determined by the average rating of IMDB users. That provides a bit more of a pop-culture-friendly list of movies than, say, the AFI Top 100, since it's determined by your average joe movie fan. However, it still makes some pretty good recommendations: "The Godfather" is right up there near the top, but "Shawshank Redemption" takes the top spot.
However, "Shawshank" and "Godfather" aren't on IMDB, which is where the Reddit list comes in. When you cross it with all the movies available on Netflix, you find that the #1 movie available on Netflix is actually "Pulp Fiction," followed by "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" and "12 Angry Men."
The list is a bit testosterone-heavy, though there are some less violent and/or despressing offerings in "All About Eve," "Amelie" and "Annie Hall," to name a few.
Here's the full list. Happy viewing!
