Longmire Season 5 Begins Production

Longmire Season 5 Begins Production

Longmire fans have been comforted by the knowledge that the series is going to return to Netflix for a fifth season, but this week they got a little more confirmation that every is going to be all right when word came out that production on the upcoming season has begun.

The Albuquerque Journal reported that the Western mystery series would begin principal photography this week in various locations in New Mexico. Longmire is set in Absaroka County, Wyoming, but the series is filmed in northern New Mexico, in and around communities such as Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Los Alamos and Espanola.

Longmire was cancelled by A&E in 2014 after airing on the cable network for three seasons, despite being one of the network's highest-rated programs. After protests by the show's fan base, which was reportedly too old for A&E's liking, Netflix stepped in and picked up the series for a fourth season as a Netflix original. Just a month after the fourth season debuted, Netflix announced that it would produce a fifth season.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for the series' season 5, but the assumption is that it will debut sometime in September 2016, a year after its fourth-season premiere.
