Live Performances Keep 'The Voice' Exciting

After Monday night’s performances from Team Blake and Team Alicia, it was time for Team Adam and Team Gwen to take the stage on NBC's The Voice. Real-time voting from viewers determined the rest of season 12’s top 12, with America voting through two artists from each team. Adam Levine and Gwen Stefani then got to each choose one artist to advance. Blake Shelton and Alicia Keys didn’t have much to do on Tuesday night other than offer brief feedback on the other teams.

The performances started with Stefani’s comeback artist Johnny Gates. He decided to sing “Can’t Keep My Hands to Myself” by Selena Gomez, putting together a creative arrangement. He said he wanted to do songs that people wouldn’t expect. Stefani encouraged him to really tell a story and bring a sexy rock vibe to his performing. He turned the delicate pop song into a rougher rock ballad, and it worked well. He set a high bar at the start of the night with his originality. Keys called him the male version of Stefani, who called him the real deal.
