Listen to Jennifer Lawrence Sing 'The Hanging Tree' As Katniss
by Andy NeuenschwanderLast week, Jennifer Lawrence revealed in an interview with David Letterman that she's terrified of singing in front of people, and mocked her own singing voice.
If that interview left you wondering what Lawrence really sounds like when she sings, here's your answer!
In "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1," which hits theaters this weekend, Lawrence sings a song called "The Hanging Tree" that appeared in the original book. Lawrence did the vocals herself, which brought up the subject on Letterman's show and led to consistent efforts from Letterman to make Lawrence sing, which she absolutely refused.
Hearing her rendition of "The Hanging Tree," we can officially say that JLaw has nothing to worry about. In fact, she sounds pretty good!
The song has a dark tone to it, and the melody reflects that. Interestingly, in a soundtrack that was curated by Lorde, Lawrence actually sounds a bit like the teenage singer in her rendition of the song: she sings low with a hint of gravel to her voice, and completely a capella at first.
"Mockingjay" is set for a big weekend, so Lawrence will undoubtedly have millions of people hearing her sing in the film...so the secret's out, JLaw.
