Lindsay Lohan To Host SNL, Because.....?

Lindsay Lohan To Host SNL, Because.....? Lindsay Lohan will take the famous New York NBC stage March 3 and host "Saturday Night Life," as announced during Maya Rudolph's homecoming host gig this past Saturday.

Former White Stripes singer and guitarist Jack White will join her as a musical guest - and well, that's about where the noteworthy aspects of her hosting the show start trailing off.

It should justifiably be met with one collective "Why?" Typically, people host "SNL" because they have a major project that needs pimping. Lohan hasn't done much more recently than successfully complete a good chunk of her court-ordered community service.

Hell, I've done that, and I didn't get to celebrate it by screaming "Live from New York, it's Saturday night!" at the top of my lungs.

If she's to be cited for anything noteworthy as far as being an entertainer, the former star of "Herbie: Fully Loaded," "Mean Girls" and "I Know Who Killed Me" took her clothes off last year for Playboy and once almost played a porn star in "Inferno" (a small step up/down, depending on your POV, since she played a stripper in "I Know Who Killed Me"). Well, a minor self-correction: she was almost set to play Linda Lovelace, the star of the controversial and legendary porno "Deep Throat." Then in 2010, her ever-present substance abuse issues forced her right off the project.

As EW.com points out in reporting the story, Lohan and "SNL" have been good friends through the years. She's a three-time former host who co-starred in "Mean Girls" alongside successful ex-"SNL" star and writer Tina Fey. When things really hit the fan circa 2005, Lohan was even good sport enough to poke fun at herself alongside Amy Poehler in a monologue dubbed "The Ghost Of Lindsay Future."

Producer Lorne Michaels is even rumored to be so fond and respectful of Lohan, that he has a genuine conscience about poking too much fun at her even as she ticks every hard-partying celebrity cliche off the list like a coupon-clipping grocery shopper.

TMZ reports further that it was Lohan who reached out to Michaels to get the hosting gig.
