Lindsay Lohan Claims Brake Failure Caused Wreck

Lindsay Lohan's story keeps changing, and nothing is clarifying what caused her Friday wreck with an 18-wheeler on California's Pacific Coast Highway.

According to Perez Hilton, the "Liz & Dick" star now claims that brake failure caused her rented Porsche to collide with a truck, sending her and her assistant to a hospital with cuts and bruises.

Bear in mind, she initially claimed that she wasn't even driving, but later admitted she was behind the wheel. She also alleged that the truck's driver cut her off, though witnesses claim that's also untrue. The driver himself has also claimed that Lohan's entourage has tried paying him off and was making haste to make a "mysterious bag" scarce before police arrived on the scene.

Now, Lohan is not only standing by her claim that the driver cut her off, but adding trying to cover all the bases by adding that the Porsche's brakes failed and prevented her from making a timely stop. She adds that the rental's dealer informed her the brakes had been replaced two days earlier.

"Seems to me once [the driver] realized he wasn't going to get anything from Lindsay, he decided to get cash by telling tales to the tabloids," said Steve Honig, Lohan's mildly alliterative assistant. "I hope he got whatever money he was looking for. Personally, all I care about is that Lindsay and [her assistant] Gavin are OK."

Lohan has been shooting Lifetime's biopic spotlighting the Hollywood romance between the late Elizabeth Taylor and her "Cleopatra" co-star Richard Burton.
