Let the Wookiee Win: Deleted 'Force Awakens' Scene Shows Violent Side of Chewbacca
by EG
In Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Han Solo warned that his Wookiee pal, Chewbacca, sometimes removed the limbs of people who crossed him. The makers of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens made a nod to that classic line with a scene that showed such an arm amputation rather than just talking about it. The scene didn't make the movie, but it surfaced on the internet this week.
The scene takes place in a cantina, much like a similar scene in A New Hope in which Obi Wan Kenobi uses his light saber to relieve a troublesome rascal of his arm. This time around, Rey is being harrassed by Unkar Plutt when Chewbacca comes to her aid, ripping off Plutt's arm and tossing it aside.
Disney apparently didn't like the scene, perhaps because it was too violent, because it showed the lovable Chewbacca in an unflattering light, or because it implied that Rey needed help in fighting her battles.
In any case, Disney didn't want you to see it when the movie was released, and they seemingly haven't changed their minds. Versions of the scenes that have popped up on YouTube have been disappearing almost as fast they have appeared.
