'Les Miserables' Soundtrack Tops Charts
by Shannon Keirnan“American Idol” singer Adam Lambert may be one of the voices of dissent out there regarding “Les Miserables,” but the numbers don’t lie.
The selective soundtracks for the movie topped Billboard charts this week.
Les Miserables: Highlights From the Motion Picture Soundtrackwas number one on the Soundtracks charts, and number 33 overall on the Billboard 200, with over 43,000 copies sold.
“I Dreamed a Dream,” unsurprisingly, was the most downloaded single from the soundtrack, which contained 20 songs from the movie.
Hathaway’s haunting, defeated rendition of the well-loved song sold around 20,000 on its own.
No word yet if more songs will be added to the 20 available, but it seems very possible that a more in-depth album will soon be released.
The album hit four days before the movie opened in theaters, curiosity possibly contributing to its huge sales. In three days over 43,000 copies were sold---most digitally. 60% of sales were via Amazon… since the release of the film, the prices to download have been slashed, so if you hadn’t already made your purchase, it seems here’s your chance.
The “Highlights” album features, obviously, “I Dreamed a Dream,” but fans looking for classics from the musical, like “Look Down,” “On My Own,” “Master of the House,” “One Day More,” “Bring Him Home,” and “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables,” will be in luck.
The album also features the self-realizing song “Suddenly,” sung by Hugh Jackman, which was written specifically for the big screen adaptation of the musical.
