Leonard Nimoy, the Original Spock, Passes Away At Age 83
by Andy Neuenschwander
The sci-fi community has lost one of its greats today: Leonard Nimoy, star of the original "Star Trek" television series, has passed away at the age of 83.
Nimoy had been battling a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for some time, and was hospitalized earlier this week after experiencing chest pains. Today, Nimoy succumbed to the illness.
The actor is a legend in the world of science fiction thanks to his originating the role of Spock on "Star Trek." It was a role that Nimoy would carry throughout his lifetime, reprising it in the original movies and, in very recent years, in the newest "Star Trek" movies even as Zachary Quinto played a younger version of the role.
Nimoy also famously guest starred in later seasons of Fox's sci-fi series "Fringe," and spent much of his career lending his sought-after voice to various projects including "The Simpsons," "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" and a number of video games including "Kingdom Hearts."
Earlier this week, Nimoy had been sharing some of his poetry on Twitter. His last tweet, therefore, is as perfect and profound as it gets. "A life is like a garden," he wrote. "Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory."
