Leo DiCaprio Drops Out of Steve Jobs Biopic

Leonardo DiCaprio as Steve Jobs. Sounds pretty good, right?

Well, too bad. It isn't happening.

The five-time Oscar nominee (always a bridesmaid) has dropped out of consideration to play the role of Steve Jobs in the upcoming biopic directed by Danny Boyle.

DiCaprio was considered the frontrunner to play the late Apple CEO and co-founder, but has apparently changed his mind about the role. A shame, considering that the role might have been the one DiCaprio needed in order to finally win that Oscar.

Then again, DiCaprio has made a bit of a career of playing real-life figures in biopics, earning award nominations for his roles as Jordan Belfort in "The Wolf of Wall Street" and as J. Edgar Hoover and Howard Hughes. Biopics are often Oscar bait, but DiCaprio hasn't gotten a statue yet.

For the time being, DiCaprio is filming "The Revenant," which began production in Canada recently. There were rumors that DiCaprio was going to take a break from acting for a while, so we'll see if that turns out to be true.

You can bet that many other Hollywood names will be jumping at the chance to take over the role, considering that "The Social Network" scribe Aaron Sorkin is writing. In any case, it should be miles better than the hastily released "Jobs" starring Ashton Kutcher.
