LEGO Batman Is Getting His Own LEGO Movie
by Andy NeuenschwanderThere were a lot of things to love about the super-fun "The Lego Movie" when it came out last year, but one of the best things about the movie was Will Arnett's portrayal of Batman as a conceited but nevertheless heroic jerk.
If you thought Batman was the best thing about "The LEGO Movie," then here's some excellent news: Batman is getting his own spinoff!
THR is reporting that Chris McKay, who headed up the previous LEGO feature film's animation department, is going to direct "LEGO Batman," a spinoff/sequel that will focus entirely on the plastic version of the Dark Knight.
The script will be written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who wrote "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" and "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," so there might be a change in tone this time around. We're hoping that Grahame-Smith can maintain the level of comedy set by "21 Jump Street" and "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" team Phil Lord and Chris Miller, but as of yet, he's mostly untested in comedy that doesn't involve juxtaposing zombies against proper British socializing.
As of now, Arnett is said to be providing the voice of the Caped Crusader again, so that's a plus. Lord and Miller will also be producing, so you can expect that they'll make sure the tone matches.
The team is hoping for a 2017 release, which would mean that DC and Warner Bros' new Batman franchise starring Ben Affleck will already be in full swing. Could we have two Batman movies in one year?
