'Law & Order: SVU' Alum Christopher Meloni To Join 'Man Of Steel'?

Christopher Meloni will definitely be missed on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" but let's all be a sport and congratulate him, if this news from The Hollywood Reporter proves true.

Barely months after it became official that Meloni would leave the police-procedural drama he co-anchored for 12 seasons, it seems he may be in line to join the cast of Warner Bros.' Superman reboot "Man of Steel" this summer.

Sources haven't confirmed his role yet, but have hinted that he'll be shooting scenes alongside Henry Cavill, the man playing Superman/Clark Kent. New York Magazine also caught up with Meloni, who hinted only that he'll be playing a "general" in the film (clearly not the famous General Zod, as that's been confirmed to be Michael Shannon) but not Superman's most famous nemesis, Lex Luthor.

If he lands whatever role it is he's in talks to play, he'll be starring alongside arguably the biggest cast of which he's ever been apart: his co-stars will include Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Diane Lane, Amy Adams and Shannon. The film is supposed to start shooting this fall in Vancouver, Chicago and California to be ready for a December 2012 release.

If it's indeed not Luthor, then that's just a bit disappointing. If Luthor were indeed to be a part of the story, Meloni's tense, sometimes snarling anger would've been a fine fit for the role. As it stands whoever he plays, this could be his big chance to show just how great he really can be by holding his own amidst a cast of Hollywood heavies.
