The Latest Celebrity Hack Includes Pictures of Minor
by Shannon KeirnanA huge invasion of privacy, it turns out, is not the worst thing about last weekend's celebrity hack.
Over 100 celebrities were victimized when an unknown hacker broke into their Apple iCloud accounts and released naked pictures online, setting the Internet ablaze and infuriating those who suddenly found private images of themselves circulating.
Currently, Apple and the FBI are examining the breach. Those responsible face such charges as wire fraud to identity theft - but now they're looking at even more severe charges, like possible dissemination of child porn, as Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney was underage when the leaked photos of her were taken.
Lawyers for Maroney are going after anyone who reposts the photos, including Porn.com, who has since removed them. Reddit.com, where the photos first hit, has warned that the pictures will be categorized as child porn.
"It is considered CP (Child Pornography) and breaks reddit's site-wide rules (in addition to international law, age of consent is different than child pornography, guys), and will get this subreddit banned if we were to allow them to be posted (not to mention the fact, again, that is is child pornography)," moderators wrote.
Initially, Maroney denied that the photos were authentic.
"The fake photos of me are crazy!!" she wrote. However, with legal action and the threat of child porn charges looming for anyone who posts the photos, it's safe to say they are unfortunately real, and you should definitely stop searching for them.
She's not the only celebrity fighting back. While some, like "Big Bang Theory" star Kayle Cuoco, have laughed off the incident, others, like "Hunger Games" actress Jennifer Lawrence and model Kate Upton, are aggressively seeking legal action against anyone who reposts the stolen images.
