Lady Gaga to PETA: Seriously, Back Off
by Andy NeuenschwanderTime to pick a side: do you support Lady Gaga or PETA? Put on your hemp hat or your meat dress, because the battle is heating up.
Apparently the singer has had quite enough of the animals rights group's antics, as she blasted the group in a blog post. She started by making sure that fans new that she would respect their beliefs and opinions, but continued to say that she does not "support violent, abusive, and childish campaigns for ANY CAUSE. Particularly one that I respect. ’Animal Rights.’"
She went on to note that PETA should probably take the flour that they throw on people wearing fur and use it to "make bread for the children who are hungry."
PETA got on Gaga's case after spotting her out wearing what appears to be a fur coat, after the singer claimed she was anti-fur in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres. Gaga explained that, in the past, she has avoided fur, but can't promise that she "won’t bend at the sight of an absolute art piece of a coat."
Who's in the right? On the one hand, Gaga has a point about PETA's tactics: they're more often for publicity than for any actual good, and there are certainly other targets that PETA could be attacking, like, say, commercial farming. On the other hand, fur never really comes from an animal that's had a happy, full life either.
So, are you team Gaga or team PETA?
