Lady Gaga Cancels 'Born This Way' Tour Stops--Update
by Shannon KeirnanThose who bought tickets for Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way Ball” tour may be out of luck. The singer announced yesterday that she is cancelling three shows due to inflammation of the joints.
“Live Nation Global Touring has confirmed that due to a case of synovitis (severe inflammation of the joints), Lady Gaga’s doctor has ordered her to postpone The Born This Way Ball performances in Chicago, Detroit and Hamilton,” read the notice.
“I am completely devastated and heartsick,” Gaga told fans. “I’ve been hiding this injury and pain from my staff for a month, praying it would heal, but after last night’s performance I could not walk. To the fans in Chicago, Detroit and Hamilton, I hope you can forgive me as it is nearly impossible for me to forgive myself right now. I would do anything for you. I will hopefully heal as soon as possible and be at 500% again, which is what you deserve.”
Synovitis is the name for inflammation of the synovial membranes that line the inner joints. Does the issue stem from the fact that Lady Gaga has tested “borderline lupus?”
Fans of Gaga--who will be making her acting debut in the "Machete" sequel, “Machete Kills” as La Chameleon--may find the announcement especially disappointing if they purchased their tickets early. Initial ticket costs ranged from an initial $100, and went well up into the $200's as the cheaper seats sold.
However the tour had disappointing ticket sales overall, and prices dropped to $60, and went on Stubhub for as low as $23.
Fans are asked to hold onto their tickets until the shows can be rescheduled—however refunds are being offered at the point of purchase.
2/14 UPDATE
Lady Gaga has cancelled the remainder of her tour, having been diagnosed with a "labral tear of the right hip."
