Banned in China: Lady Gaga and Katy Perry Too 'Vulgar'

Banned in China: Lady Gaga and Katy Perry Too 'Vulgar' It's official: Lady Gaga and Katy Perry are in "poor taste." At least, they are are according to the Chinese government.

China's Ministry of Culture has released their third annual list of songs that are banned from distribution due to being too vulgar or lacking taste. Websites will have until the 15th of this month to remove the offending songs.

The queen of vulgarity in the eyes of the Chinese is Lady Gaga, who rules the list with six singles that are now banned: "Judas," "The Edge of Glory," "Hair," "Marry the Night," "Americano" and "Bloody Mary."

Katy Perry also managed to make the list, but surprisingly only for "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)." Beyonce's "Run the World (Girls)" also made the list, though it's unclear as to whether that was for the message or the repeat of "who runs this muthaf***a." In general, the list is compiled to "ward off negative influences on young people."

Here's the really funny part: also making the list was "I Want It That Way" by the Backstreet Boys. At this point, I can't tell whether China's Ministry of Culture really opposes these songs, or is just trying to keep people from playing terrible music. Then again, if it were the latter you would have to assume that Nickelback would have made the list more than once.
