'La La Land' Rakes in Oscar Nominations, 'Deadpool' Doesn't

The musical romance La La Land has already been proven a critical and commercial success, and earlier this month it dominated the Golden Globe Awards. Now, Oscars nominations have been announced, and they're very much on the La La bandwagon. Long-shot Deadpool, however, had its Oscar aspirations dashed with the announcement.

La La Land received a total of 14 nominations, tying the record for most for any film set by All About Eve and matched by Titanic. La La Land was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Original Song, and seven more Oscars.

Other Best Picture nominees include Moonlight, Arrival, Fences, Manchester By The Sea, Hidden Figures, Lion, Hacksaw Ridge and Hell or High Water. The list of nominees offers no real surprises, as it includes all of the pre-nomination favorites to get the nod.

Missing from the list were popular favorites Deadpool and Zootopia, either of which could have been squeezed in under the category's 10-nominee limit if the Academy had thought they were worthy. Zootopia was nominated in the Best Animated Feature category, but Deadpool was shut out entirely.
