L.A. County Coroner Announces Cause of Heavy D's Death

L.A. County Coroner Announces Cause of Heavy D's Death The death of legendary rapper Heavy D is no longer a mystery. The Overweight Lover simply did too much jet-setting.

The L.A. County Coroner's Office announced today that Heavy D had died of a pulmonary embolism caused by "deep leg vein thombrosis" - essentially a blood clot in his leg that moved through his body up to his lung, causing the blockage that eventually killed him.

Pulmonary embolisms frequently occur with long-distance travellers, though they aren't always deadly.

Heavy D had recently returned from a flight back from Wales, where he performed at a Michael Jackson tribute concert.

The coroner also mentioned that Heavy D had heart disease, which he said may also have been a contributing factor.

The 44-year-old hip-hop legend passed away November 8th of this year in Los Angeles, much to the shock of friends, fans and family.

As MTV describes it: "Police reported that on November 8 they arrived at Heavy D's Beverly Hills home after a call was made to report an unconscious man. When the cops arrived, they found the rapper conscious, though he had difficulty breathing. The self-proclaimed Overweight Lover was then transported to Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead".
