'A Knights' Tale' to Hit Television?
by Shannon KeirnanIt’s been 11 years since we swooned over Heath Ledger in “A Knight’s Tale.”
Has the time come to revamp the story?
ABC apparently thinks so. They’ve bought a script commitment for the television adaptation of the much-loved jousting/romance flick.
“Battlestar Galactica” developer and executive producer Ron Moore will be tackling the project. The plan is to translate, fairly faithfully, the movie to the small screen.
“The series is expected to stay close to the premise and the style of the movie — it is described as a medieval fantasy incorporating modern music and themes that follows the journey of a young man who starts out impersonating a knight of the realm and ends upbecoming one,” states Deadline in their exclusive on the matter.
Is this how the mighty fall, Ron Moore? Or will Moore be able to make something truly entertaining out of this? What’s “A Knight’s Tale” without the gorgeous and tan late Heath Ledger tromping around on a sweaty horse?
Historical shows and fantasy are certainly in right now. “Once Upon a Time” fans are being especially targeted as potential viewers, so maybe people will be tuning in to see a young man knock people off a horse—although I’m sure they’ll need to throw in some shenanigans and love affairs to stay in-keeping with the movie, and keep audiences interested.
Jousting and love affairs, set to a modern soundtrack? Is this just “The Tudors” for a younger crowd?
What’s your opinion? Would you tune in to watch?
