'Khloe & Lamar' Done With E! Reality Show

Khloe & Lamar Go on, we'll gladly say it with you with glee to match your own: we've actually gotten rid of a Kardashian.

Following a tumultuous year, Khloe Kardashian and husband/now-ex Dallas Mavericks forward Lamar Odom have decided this upcoming season of E!'s "Khloe & Lamar" will close out the show.

Odom's time with the Mavericks didn't exactly pan out this shortened 66-game season. The Los Angeles Lakers got a first-round draft pick and $8.9-million trade exception in exchange for Odom on Dec. 11, 2011. He clashed often with Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and the Mavericks listed him as "inactive" for the remainder of the season. Sources told TMZ today that the pair have nixed the show to give Odom back his focus on rekindling his once-promising NBA career.

E! execs have reportedly already been pushing for the pair to reconsider, but no dice thus far.

"You can have a one-year slump and then be productive the next year," CBS Sports analyst Lindsay McCormick told Hollywood Life when assessing Odom's prospects. "Lamar is one of the best players in the NBA and this season was just an off year for him, but he can come back.

"He's a great athlete," she added. "He should stick with the NBA and he should forget about reality TV and focus on what he has a real talent for and what's paying the bills."

Odom is a 2011 NBA Sixth Man Award winner, a two-time NBA Championship winner, and 2000 NBA All-Rookie First Team selection. Despite some bumps and eventually being phased out of Los Angeles, there's certainly the promise McCormick describes. It shouldn't be a question of "can he" make a comeback. It's a question of how effectively he shrugs off the Kardashian distraction and ensuing lost year this one has been.

For the Kardashians, it's certainly bittersweet timing. It was just last week that E! not only gave "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" a three-season new lease on life, but simultaneously extended a blanket development deal with the Kardashian family, including Odom.

Update:  A rep for the TV show has given this statement to People, "It has NOT been cancelled, it’s just on hold now while schedules are figured out. It will depend on their schedules, as Lamar’s basketball schedule is a priority."
