Kevin Hart Calls His DUI Arrest a 'Wake Up Call'
by Shannon KeirnanHis DUI arrest was a “wake up call,” according to comedian Kevin Hart.
The actor was pulled over Sunday when they saw his black Mercedes going 90 miles per hour on Los Angeles Highway 101 at around 4:30 a.m., weaving in and out of traffic and nearly colliding with a gas tanker trunk, according to California Highway Patrol. He was visibly intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test. He was arrested with $5,000 bond and released later that night.
His female passenger was sent home in a taxi.
Hart, who will be appearing in “This is The End,” initially joked about the incident via Twitter, saying that he did “6,000 push ups & 13,000 sit ups,” while in “the pin,” and giving a shout out to his cellmate “Mark.”
"I'm officially a thug, I spent 6hrs in jail last night...I got pulled over 3blocks from my house by a dick head cop," he tweeted. "This cop was the worst, he knew who I was & wanted to make a example out of me...."
"When the cop asked me to take the sobriety test I said "WHY WASTE OUR TIME...I'M DRUNK MAN," he wrote.
Hart, who stars in BET’s “Real Husbands of Hollywood,” later addressed the issue more somberly.
"This is a wake up call for me, I have to be smarter & last night I wasn't....everything happens for a reason...."
Hart added, "On some real s--- ... drinking & driving is not a game or a laughing matter. People have lost lives because of stupid s--- this!"
