'Kevin Can Wait,''Bull' and 'MacGyver' Get Full Seasons
by EG
Three new series got good news this week, as CBS put in full-season orders for Kevin Can Wait, Bull and MacGyver. All three series have been drawing respectable audiences so far since their fall premieres, and the network has committed to keeping them on the schedule until the spring.
Of the three series, Kevin James' Kevin Can Wait is the best performer. The sitcom, in which James plays a lovable dad, is the highest-rated new comedy of the fall season, and it's the second-highest-rated new show, period. It's doing well with both older viewers and the prized 18-49 age demographic.
Bull, the legal drama based loosely on the career of Dr. Phil McGraw, is doing better with older viewers, but even among younger audiences, it's the third-highest-rated new drama, a category in which it trails only This Is Us on NBC and Lethal Weapon on Fox.
MacGyver is not posting stellar ratings, but its performance has been solid on Fridays, a night in which CBS has struggled against its competition of late.
The three CBS series join This Is Us, Lethal Weapon, and Speechless and Designated Survivor on ABC as the first new series of the fall season to get full-season orders.
