Will 'The Kennedys' miniseries ever air?

The KennedysThe eight part miniseries “The Kennedys” starring Katie Holmes and Greg Kinnear had been surrounded by controversies after the History Channel suddenly decide to dump the show.

In a statement, the management of the network explained that the production does not fit for the networks’ trademark.

According to History Channel, "We recognize historical fiction is an important medium for storytelling and commend all the hard work and passion that has gone into the making of the series, but ultimately deem this as the right programming decision for our network.”

Canadian director Jon Cassar said they weren’t expecting the abrupt decision of the network and he believes that the friend of the Kennedy family were the ones who lobbied to stop the airing of the show.

Cassar said, "We were very surprised" that the History Channel objected to the 8-part series. The actual product takes no political stance one way or the other.”

The Star, a Canadian newspaper also quoted Cassar saying, "I doubt [the Kennedys] have seen it, they were objecting to it before it started. They were objecting to the idea of it."

Cassar emphasized that Katie Holmes and Greg Kinnear who plays President John F. Kennedy along with the rest of the casts did their homework and did an extensive research about the real-life figures they played.

"All of these people became these people...The actors came to the set with books in their hands. Everything was double-checked and triple-checked," pointed Cassar.

On the other hand, Showtime also decided not to broadcast “The Kennedys.” According to the network,“Although “The Kennedys” is well-produced, well-acted and a quality piece of work, it doesn't fit the Showtime programming brand."

That is really a bad news…many are expecting that Showtime will pick-up the miniseries because it has a history of airing the controversial miniseries “The Reagans” in the past when it was pulled out from CBS in 2004 due to advertisers concerns.

Starz and FX also said no to “The Kennedys” while HBO is current working on their own Kennedys project.

We hope that one network is brave enough to stand up and say, “We will air the show to give light to the controversies behind “The Kennedys.” Of course, people would love to see the content of the program especially when some people are trying to stop it. Why? that is a million dollar question and I bet people want to know the answer. Don’t you?
