Kelly Ripa is Winning the Ratings Battle Against Michael Strahan

After leaving Live with Kelly & Michael to host GMA Day on ABC, Michael Strahan is in competition, like or not, with his old co-host Kelly Ripa. And so far, things are not going so well for Michael. Read on for details.

Kelly Ripa may get the last laugh.

Ripa was unforgettably furious when Michael Strahan was airlifted out of her “Live! With Kelly and Michael” show to be moved on to greater things on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

But TV insiders point out that Strahan’s own talk show, “GMA Day,” is being handily beaten by Ripa and her new partner, Ryan Seacrest.

Although it’s very early days — “GMA Day” premiered Sept. 10 — early numbers have it trailing his former show by more than a million viewers.

Nielsen stats show “GMA Day” with 1.76 million viewers, while Ripa’s show brought in 2.85 million during the same period. Meanwhile, Strahan’s show, which he co-hosts with Sara Haines, was also down from the “The Chew,” the cooking-based chat show that it replaced.

“The Chew” — canceled after panelist Mario Batali was fired because of the allegations of sexual misconduct made against him — was getting 2.25 million viewers last year.

In April 2016, Ripa sensationally went on strike after learning that execs had taken Strahan off the syndicated “Live!” — without consulting her — to move him onto ABC’s flagship morning show, “Good Morning America.”
