Kelly Clarkson Announces Pregnancy

Former American Idol sweetheart Kelly Clarkson wasn't planning to make a surprise announcement on Wednesday night, but when she felt the love of 20,000 of her closest friends, she couldn't help herself.

"I wasn't planning on announcing this," she told the crowd at concert at Los Angeles' Staples Center, "...totally pregnant."

Clarkson later confessed that she felt the audience deserved an explanation for her emotional state during the concert. The singer had been having some trouble getting through her song "Piece by Piece" without breaking down.

"I just didn't want you to think I was crazy or something," she said. "Honestly, I'm so hormonal today."

The new baby Clarkson will be the second for the singer and her husband, Brandon Blackstock. Their first, daughter River Rose, is just 14 months old, so the Clarkson-Blackstock household is going to be a busy one for awhile.

Clarkson's career continues to roll 13 years after she conquered the first season of American Idol back in 2002. She's gone on to be one of the past decade's most successful pop stars, and this year's Piece by Piece, her seventh studio album opened at number one on Billboard's album chart. The first single from that album, "Heartbeat Song," was certified Platinum and was the sixteenth of Clarkson's singles to make it into Billboard's Top 40.

After the announcement, Clarkson admitted that she had yet to break the news to some of her friends and family. Chances are that they know now.
