Keira Knightley Poses Topless to Protest Photoshop and Beauty Standards [NSFW]
by Andy NeuenschwanderKeira Knightley is exposing herself for a noble cause.
The British actress struck a deal with Interview magazine: she would pose topless for a photo shoot, on the condition that the magazine not Photoshop or otherwise retouch her photo in any way.
"I've had my body manipulated so many different times for so many different reasons, whether it's paparazzi photographers or for film posters," Knightley said in an interview about the shoot. "That [shoot] was one of the ones where I said: 'OK, I'm fine doing the topless shot so long as you don't make them any bigger or retouch.' Because it does feel important to say it really doesn't matter what shape you are."
Knightley has spoken in the past about her breasts and the steps taken by various entities to enhance them for photo shoots. On the "Graham Norton Show," she talked about how makeup artists would applying contouring makeup to her chest to accent her cleavage for the "Pirates of the Caribbean" posters.
"I think women's bodies are a battleground and photography is partly to blame," Knightley said.
On a lighter note, Knightley told Allure in a 2012 interview that she doesn't always mind some makeup work, as long as it's at least flattering.
"They always pencil in my boobs," she told Allure. "I was only angry when they were really droopy. For King Arthur, for a poster, they gave me these really strange droopy tits. I thought, well if you're going to make me fantasy breasts, at least make perky breasts."
The uncensored and unretouched photo is below. We think Keira looks great!
