Katy Perry: NO Interest In 'American Idol'

Katy Perry: NO Interest In 'American Idol' Monday's rumors painting a major "American Idol" judge shake-up might've gotten some hopes up. Here's hoping it didn't vault some particular ones too high.

Not long after word surfaced that producers were interested in adding Seasing Eight runner-up Adam Lambert to a very much uncertain Season 12 panel, rumblings also surfaced that producers had also set sights upon some combination of Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Will.I.Am, Fergie and/or Miley Cyrus to also join the panel.

At this juncture, neither Randy Jackson, nor Jennifer Lopez, nor Steven Tyler have signed on for the next season. The departure of Lopez looks all but certain with a forthcoming tour on the way and twins to mother.

Whatever the case may be, and whatever producers' interest in Perry, the eight-time Grammy nominee likely isn't biting, The Hollywood Reporter claims. Though she's previously performed on "Idol" and sat in as a guest judge, she said of a full-time gig on the show, "It's not right for me yet.

"People have reached out to me about the possibility of being involved," Perry explained. "It's a real commitment to be on one of those shows. . . . I have ideas for two or three big, creative things, and I want to be able to fulfill those ideas."

She added that while she's fond of the concepts of prime-time singing competition shows, some casting decisions don't exactly lend them great credibility as sources of money-making talent among the recording industry.

"I find it completely hilarious when they hire people that are not current in music and haven't been for a decade or longer," says Perry, without naming any personalities' respective names. "Or if they're not even in music. How are you going to give a perspective when you haven't even lived that perspective?"

For her part, this probably isn't a new rumor for Perry. Both she and Minaj found themselves this past winter on a list of rumored targets in Simon Cowell's search to replace departed "The X Factor" judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. Cowell eventually settled on Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.
