Katy Perry Drops Out of 'People's Choice Awards': Is Russell to Blame? Nothing better for getting over a breakup than having adoring fans shower you with awards and attention, right?

Apparently not for Katy Perry. The pop songstress was set to appear in the "People's Choice Awards" on Jan. 11th, but announced today that she would be backing out of the ceremony.

The awards show would have been Perry's first public appearance since she announced her divorce from husband Russell Brand just before New Year's Eve. The couple dated briefly before marrying a little more than a year ago, but ran into trouble down the line and reportedly ended up spending Christmas apart from each other.

As for the "People's Choice Awards," Perry and Brand were originally set to go together. Anticipating some potential awkwardness after the split, the show then rescinded Brand's invitation, most likely in hopes that Perry, a nominee, would still attend.

But with this tweet, Perry put the nail in that coffin:

When will Perry finally appear following the divorce? When will it be? Who knows, she might end up hiding in the Perry Cave (I assume she has a cave) until the Grammys.
