Justin Bieber's Gun Pic: Internet Decrees That Was In Bad Taste, Sir.
by Shannon KeirnanOh, Justin Bieber. You silly, silly lady.
Bieber, who, I believe, is the Princess of Canada (correct me if I’m wrong) has stirred up some serious controversy with his disturbing picture post—no, not the one of him showing off his newest tattoo (a crown, not a tiara) while lounging on what appears to be a dead animal, but the one of him pointing a gun at a gentleman.
Apparently while visiting his young lady love, Selena Gomez, on the site of her new movie “Feed the Dog,” Bieber decided to fool around with a fake (I’m assuming…) gun, and post the pics.
This decision has the Internet in an uproar.
“Justin, whether you like it or not, you’re a role model. And millions of fans, 27 million on Twitter, are following your every move. You have power in this industry, and holding a gun in jest is just plain foolish,” scolds the blog Hollywood Life.
“Justin, you’re better than this,” from The Hot Button.
And it’s true, especially following such a terrible string of gun-related tragedies, that Bieber needs to recognize that he’s not just a teenage boy (girl? I’ve been so confused since the haircut) fooling around with friends and his girlfriend—he’s someone whose example kids follow, and who millions of people look up to and emulate. To belittle guns in such a way does not set a good precedent for others.
It might not be world news that Bieber chose to take and post this foolish picture, but it’s resonating with people, coming so close on the heels of the massacre in Aurora, the shootings in Chicago and New York and New Jersey and so on and so forth. These are horrible and senseless deaths that have shocked the world, and the media, and if Bieber pulled himself away from the mirror and turned on the news, maybe he would be more considerate of his actions.
So while I don’t think Bieber intended the photo to be so offensive (honestly), he needs to recognize that there is backlash for his actions, and take some time out of ruling his country to set a good example.
And besides, it doesn’t look cool. Pull up your pants and go back to being the nice guy around the corner, Bieber. This doesn’t suit you.
