Joss Whedon Expresses Opinion of 'Ant-Man' News

In other Joss Whedon/Marvel Universe news, the man behind much of the cinematic and television exploration of Marvel’s comic book characters has taken to Twitter to subtly express his thoughts about the recent change at the helm of the “Ant-Man” film.

Last week, it was announced that Edgar Wright was stepping down as the director of “Ant-Man” because of creative differences. Wright had co-written the film’s script, and it was speculated that he was upset over rewrites.

Wright is best known for his “Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy” of films, which include “Shaun of the Dead,” “Hot Fuzz” and “The World’s End.” After the news of Wright’s departure, Whedon posted a photo of himself holding up a Cornetto ice cream wrapper, an obvious statement in support of Wright.

Wright and Whedon have no professional connection, making “Ant-Man” one of the few Marvel projects in development that doesn’t have some sort of close tie to Whedon, either through his direct involvement or the involvement of writers, producers or directors who have worked closely with him in the past. The tweet, though, shows that although Whedon isn’t directly connected to “Ant-Man,” he’s paying attention to the project.

“Ant-Man” is due out in July of 2015, and it will star Paul Rudd in the title role.
