Josh Brolin Cast As 'Avengers' Baddie Thanos

The Marvel universe has found the man to play its Big Baddie.

Josh Brolin is said to have been cast as Thanos, the villain who made an appearance in the post-credits scene of "The Avengers." The rumor started as per a Latino Review report, and has been confirmed by Variety.

With Thanos being as large, alien and purple as he is, it's likely that Brolin will serve as a voice actor only. But with his strong chin, who knows? He will probably provide some motion capture at the very least.

For those who are thinking, "Who?" here's a little background: Thanos is a notorious villain in Marvel comics, and was in the post-credits sequence after "The Avengers." The character will also reportedly make an appearance in the upcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy," though he won't serve as the main villain: That role belongs to Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser.

In fact, Thanos won't even be the main villain in "Avengers 2," as the subtitle for that sequel, "Age of Ultron," indicates that Ultron will be the Big Bad. That means that Thanos is likely the main villain for "Avengers 3," whenever the heck that is going to come out.

Thanos has been hinted at ever since the release of "Thor," in which fans caught a glimpse of an artifact called the Infinity Gauntlet, which holds gems that have been scattered throughout various Marvel movies. Once all of them are introduced, you can bet that Thanos will get his hands on them, and the Gauntlet, at some point.

Marvel has yet to comment on the casting, but then again, Marvel usually doesn't reveal many secrets about their movies until they're good and ready to do so.
