Jordin Sparks and Jason Derulo Split

Looks like Jason Derulo is officially "Ridin' Solo" again.

Derulo confirmed that he and his girlfriend of three years, singer and "American Idol" alum Jordin Sparks, have split. The two began their relationship in 2011 and recently recorded a duet together.

Derulo revealed the news during a radio interview, but refused to elaborate much on the issue, saying that he would "rather not" go into it.

"Everything is cool man," the 25-year-old singer reassured. "It's not a bad situation. It's not one of those kinds of things."

The split comes as a bit of a surprise, as the couple recently appeared together at the MTV Video Music Awards in August, sporting matching outfits and seeming as happy as ever. Back in 2012, Sparks said that she and Derulo had even been considering getting engaged.

It's worth noting that the two have fairly busy upcoming schedules. Derulo kicks off a major tour in just a couple of weeks, and Sparks has been in the studio working on a new album. In fact, just a few weeks ago, Sparks tweeted that she "just wrote the saddest song of my life."

Could that have marked the beginning of the end for the couple?

In any case, fans are already pretty broken up about the split. But considering the amicable nature of it, maybe there's hope in the future for these two lovebird songbirds.

For her part, Sparks simply tweeted a message today: "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."
