Jon Oliver Debunks Miss America's $45 Million Scholarship Claim

Jon Oliver Debunks Miss America's $45 Million Scholarship Claim It's pretty safe to say that John Oliver isn't a big fan of "Miss America."

The "Last Week Tonight" host took time on his show for a major takedown of the long-running beauty pageant, targeting both the organization's supposed scholarship offerings and the idea of beauty pageants as a whole.

"How the f--k is this still happening?" Oliver wonders in the clip, noting how pageants haven't really been at all relevant since Alaska had just become a state.

Furthermore, Oliver investigates the Miss America pageant's claim of providing $45 million in scholarship money for women every year, when in fact it seems like that figure might be off...by about $44.5 million.

Not only that, but the scholarships are only offered to those who compete in the Miss America pageant, which means only women who have never been married, never been pregnant, and have gone through the awful process of being judged for their physical appearance on live television will even have a shot at it.

From there, Oliver pulled out tax forms for all the competitions at the state level to further hammer home the point that "Miss America" is, well, full of crap.
