Jon Hamm Claims Kardashian, Hilton Remark Was Misunderstood

Jon Hamm Claims Kardashian, Hilton Remark Was Misunderstood Call it backpedaling if you must, but Access Hollywood reports that "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm claims his remarks last week calling Kim Kardashian "stupid" were misunderstood.

Recall that Hamm said during an interview with ELLE UK that the reality starlet proves that "stupidity is celebrated" in America.

"I think that my quote was a little bit misunderstood," Hamm said at PaleyFest 2012 Tuesday. By that time, Kardashian had already replied that she found Hamm's remarks "careless" and suggested he regard others' feelings with more care. "I think that she's - I've never met her. I would never say anything personal about anyone that I have never met.

"My quote was simply about that version of television and that version of American culture being celebrated and it's not something that I particularly enjoy," Hamm elaborated. "But the quote was obviously taken out of context and you know, there you go."

To be perfectly specific, People quoted Hamm as saying during the interview, "Whether it's Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated. Being a f***ing idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture because you're rewarded significantly."

Points for the good Mr. Don Draper being diplomatic, but someone please, point out the evidence that's he's wrong. It's practically a business model for the wealthy: "Do stupid shit . . . make sex tape . . . get TV show . . . ??? . . . profit." We are about an evolutionary step from becoming underpants gnomes.

Kardashian certainly wasn't impressed, responding via Twitter:
