Johnny Depp Potentially Facing 10 Years in Prison For WHAT?
by Shannon KeirnanOkay, wow.
Everyone's favorite American-with-an-inexplicable-British-accent, Johnny Depp, is facing some very "serious" consequences to flying his dogs into Australia without going through the proper channels.
The star of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" recently caused a political faux pas firestorm when he brought his two Yorkshire terriers, Boo and Pistol, into Australia on his private jet. The megastar failed to declare them, or acquire the proper permits and submit the dogs for their mandatory quarentine period of at least ten days.
Australian Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce declared, "If we start letting movie stars - even though they've been the sexiest man alive twice - to come into our nation, then why don't we just break the laws for everybody?"
Joyce threatened to have the dogs euthanized if they did not leave, and Depp flew them immediately back to America via private jet.
But that's not enough. An Australian senate committee was told Monday that if the case goes to court, Depp could face up to ten years in prison, or a maximum fine of $340,000.
Whew. At least we know that Depp can afford to pay the fine.
However, Depp's pilot, who initially flew the dogs in with Depp's wife Amber Heard, could face up to two years in prison for "smuggling" the pets in.
Let that be a good lesson to anyone bringing their pets into a foreign country - no matter who you are, follow the proper channels!
What do you think, will the case go to court? Will Depp face prison time? Will Boo and Pistol ever live down the guilt?
