Check out Pics of Johnny Depp from Tim Burton's Burton's 'Dark Shadows'

Director Tim Burton, his man-muse star Johnny Depp and company are all in the U.K., shooting Burton's 2012 film adaptation of the vampire soap-opera "Dark Shadows," and these set pictures first posted on Celebuzz! show that it looks like a vintage Depp character performance.

One can only make so many "glittering" generalities about the Stephanie Meyer/"Twilight"-era vampires before the object of one's snarky affection just becomes sad and depressing.

With that in mind, it's so good to see that Burton embraces Depp donning a more classic, enigmatic shade of pale. It's been so long since we saw a true dapper vampire gentleman with a sense of style.

Depp, of course, will lead the film as Barnabas Collins, the vampire who became the series' personal icon when Jonathan Frid originated the role one year into the gothic soap's 1966-1971 run.

The show also featured time travelers, warlocks, werewolves, witches and zombies, to name just a few other-worldly and supernatural denizens that populated its universe.

The rest of the cast is rounded out, as Burton's casts often are, by some of Hollywood's finest paired with relative unknowns: Depp is joined by Michelle Pfieffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz and Gulliver McGrath.

It hits theaters May 11, 2012.
