Joan Rivers Reportedly 'On the Road to Recovery'
by Shannon KeirnanThere may finally be some optimistic news regarding Joan Rivers.
Five days ago the snarky "Fashion Police" comedienne was rushed to Mt. Sinae Hospital after she stopped breathing during a minor surgery on throat.
Tuesday, E! colleague Ken Baker told worried fans that Rivers is on the road to healing.
He made the announcement during his weekly webcast.
"I spoke to someone who is close to the situation and has been to the hospital," he said. "She is still in serious condition, however, the source I spoke to said things are progessing. She is on the road to recovery... this is not some dire, doomsday situation like you may have read."
The last official news was that Rivers had been placed in a medically induced coma - no word yet on whether Rivers has been taken out of that.
"My source said it's something that [River's friends and family] are just taking day by day and they remain hopeful."
Daughter Melissa, who rushed to her mother's side when the incident happened, has said very little regarding River's recovery.
"We are keeping our fingers crossed," she has said.
Filming for "Fashion Police" has been placed on hold for the moment while Rivers remains hospitalized, E! announced.
"We will not be producing a 'Fashion Police' this week or next as we await Joan and Melissa's return in front and behind the camera."
Instead the network plans to air two "Fashion Police" specials.
Here's hoping that things continue to progress positively. Our thoughts continue to be with Rivers, and her family and friends.
UPDATE:
Melissa Rivers has released a statement regarding her mother's condition, and it's worrisome.
"On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we've received. At this time she does remain on life support. I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers."
